Granada - 29 Sep 2013

Hi all! I am back from Porto! *Waves frantically* Been really busy catching up with school. Still catching up. Haha. Nova is quite similar to SMU so... yups. Will be around Lisbon this weekend due to the rainy season. Hoping that the rain will stop so I can catch sunset at Belem later!

Back to 2nd day in Granada...

Our plan for the 2nd day is to head to Alhambra palace! We tried to book it online but it was fully booked during the days that we were going to be there so we had to try our luck to queue up early for student tickets. Woke up earlier than usual and went to Alhambra Restaurant for the famous churros. I'll say this is nowhere near Madrid's standard but good enough for me:)

End up... we didn't manage to get the Alhambra palace ticket and we settled for the tickets to enter the garden. We couldn't beat the elderly who has got nothing to do on a Sunday morning. So... those who are planning to head to Granada soon better book the tickets now. I really couldn't believe how that can be sold out so fast:(

It was raining really heavily so we bought a later ticket for the gardens and went to chill at a nearby cafe. There's only one cafe/restaurant nearby...

View from the Alhambra gardens! We went in as soon as the rain clears.

Funny looking fountain. After our Andalusia trip, we realised how weak their fountains are. They like to mention some fountains are really famous work of whoever but most of the time there are either no water or the flow is really pathetic. I miss Singapore.

Bimbotic shot to show that I have been here/

One of the few surviving flowers in the garden.

These patterns are too beautiful. I returned to Lisbon being super obsessive with these patterns/motifs. I must visit Turkey one day.

Most of the good viewpoints in the Gardens are barricaded or just not open to the public. I have to stretch my hand or take these photos from tiny holes or windows on the wall.

Wanted to climb up that tiny hill but there seems to be no railings up their narrow stairs so I gave up that thought. Haha.

Hi. Am I still in Spain?

It's the wrong time of the year to take wedding shots. I wonder what are the couple thinking. It was a rainy week in Granada too. But anyway, we met them a few times when we tour the gardens and the lady in pink kept making the bride do really clique poses like the one below:

There were worst ones like making her lie sideways on the staircase. Hahahaha.

And I was super excited to see pumpkins. Hahaha. It's funny how they can still grow in this weather.

The bushes all so well trimmed. I wonder why they don't do the same to their trees:'(

And it starts raining just when we were almost done with the tour ^^V

Went back to the city centre for a late lunch! Tapas on bread :)

Went to the muslim quarters after that. More slopes!

We found a postcard with the exact same picture as the one I took below and we don't even know what is so special about this just that it's pretty :)

Continue climbing to the San Nicholas viewpoint.

Worth climbing all the slopes for this:)

Pretty fall leaves outside the Great Mosque of Granada.

Chilled at an alfresco cafe near the mosque to wait for the next visiting hour.

Really awesome view from the cafe but it began raining afterwards.

When the rain stops...

People on the Mirador de San Nicholas...

Finally the Mosque is open for visit!

It's marble floor! Haha. Don't know why I was so amazed by it. Been out of civilisation for too long.

Back to the city centre.

And realised that the traffic lights are not working???

Cars actually let us cross the road when it's their right of way but we later realised that there were actually no other cars on the road.

Paella and tapas for dinner.

After dinner then we found out that that day was a special occasion for Mother Mary Of Andalusia. There were a procession that night. The weird thing is how the traffic lights are not working, roads were 'closed' but there was no need for policemen or security guards to enforce that. It's like a known thing that you are not supposed to drive on that day for the procession to be carried out. It's such a good feeling:) We just stood at the roadside near our dinner place to wait for the procession to pass by. We were so close to the actual thing. No barricades were used. It totally made our Granada trip :)

Ronda road trip next!
