Good food with the close ones

This morning is a whole bunch of drama events. Sighs. I guess the only thing I hate about my Note II is the alarm clock):

Last week was gone in a flash. Time seems to pass faster when school starts and I get sleepy really early too): But! I did spend a good week yesterday with lots of good food and good company :)

1) EAST OCEAN TEOCHEW RESTAURANT @Ngee Ann City

Huihui!

I haven't brought my camera out for a long time. I stopped taking photos so often after I bought my DSLR cos it's so bulky. How can I fit it into my bags since I am carrying smaller and smaller bags nowadays??? && It's too exaggerating to use it to take food photos and stuff. Hmm. Brought the bf's GF2 out last week ;)

Haven't had Huihui's face appear on my blog for a long time. We love love East Ocean dim sum! It's really my top favourite place to go for dim sum. Reasonably priced and rather good service :) We ordered our 'usual', which is the custard bun, siew mai, hah gao, chee chong fun with barbecued pork,... Decided to try one of their cute dim sum but it's kinda disappointing. Their custard bun is the best I have ever eaten. As compared to Crystal Jade, Jade @ The Fullerton and the Shangri-la dim sum. Yums.

2) Standing Sushi Bar @SAM

Finally get to meet Gen for lunch now that I am back to school! We decided to try Standing Sushi Bar since everyone around me in SMU seems to be raving about it. It's so near our school, we just had to try it!

When we go in, we were kinda taken aback since it's not a literal 'Standing Sushi Bar'. There were bar top seats but no sumptuous sushi on a conveyor belt. Everything was ala carte or in sets. We had a hard time trying to figure out what's in a particular dish since some of the dishes doesn't have a picture on the menu. At first glance, the food seems pretty pricey too but they had pretty good deals on different days of the week which you can find out more about it here. I ordered a soba (I have been craving for for weeks but didn't get to eat it.) and a Dragon Roll (one of their specialties sushi) to share and Gen ordered a sashimi salad.

The Dragon Roll is sooooo yummy! I prefer this to Shiok Maki anytime! At first glance I am meh... It must be the same as the Koh Grill & Sushi Bar's but I was so wrong! Dragon Roll is a sushi with unagi wrap on the outside and shrimp tempura in the inside, which is quite the same ingredient as the Shiok Maki v1 but it's so much better without the cheese and the humongous amount of rice. Even though it's 8 pieces per plate, it kept me wanting for more. Can't wait to go back again on days with 50% off sashimi!

I love catching up with Gen like this once in a while. We have been in the same school since secondary school (SAJC after that and now SMU) but we didn't really talk to each other much due to the different routes we take. I am just so happy to see her beaming with bliss everyday. Haha. I never fail to repeat this but this is really the happiest her I have ever seen since I know her. I feel happy just looking at her (:

3) Founder's BKT @Balestier

It was mummy's birthday on the 9 of Mar so we decided to take her out for dinner! She haven't tried Founder's BKT, so did my sibs, so boyfriend and I brought them there for dinner. My mum don't want us to spend too much money on her birthday too. It was quite a disappointment though. This is probably the 3rd or 4th time I am there and I was really looking forward to it but... The pork ribs were soooo hard (certain parts SO FAT) and difficult to eat and the soup didn't taste that good anymore. Not going to go back there anymore. I felt so bad to bring my mum to eat something that's so not up to standard on her birthday):

4) Jade @ The Fullerton

Our church service ended really early so we went to walk around One Fullerton while waiting for le BFFs to arrive.

We randomly found Catalunya Restaurant while we were walking around and I just had to #ootd with it!
Didn't expect Catalunya to be in a standalone capsule! So cute! Can't wait to try it someday.

Chilling at Starbucks since I have rebates on my Citibank card to clear. Hehe.

Finally at Jade!

With the Bffs~~ So much love.

Just realised that we were very matchy that day. Hehe. And Yuankai towers over Qi and Ting with his new Dr. Martens.

You must be wondering why is there no photos of food. We booked the first sitting which is 1115 to 1230 and the last order is 1215. Ridiculous isn't it? It's quite crazy since it's a dim sum buffet. Dim sum is super filling and usually people will want to slowly enjoy their food during a buffet. We had to order a whole lot at one go cos they need to prepare the food and we only had one hour to order. The food gets cold really fast and dim sum is a little oily at times and when it turns cold it's even worst. We can't really chat with each other and slowly enjoy the food. I didn't really like this. Overall it was quite worth it in that it's $42 nett each and they are very generous with the ingredients and overall it's still good (but I prefer East Ocean). There were abalone on the siew mai, there were bird nest soup, scallop and lobster porridge. I love the soup and egg noodle though:)

  1. east ocean has terrible service. staff are rude.

once the cod fish came uncooked, while the captain was cutting it, he must have known it was still raw in the middle, coz he had trouble cutting it, it was still raw n tough and couldnt be cut.

anways, he went off after finding it hard to cut, he pretended that everything was fine.

when we looked for him, he pretended not to see us and looked aways.

terrible service at east ocean with rude staff..]

  2. Oh no! I have never eaten their main course before. Often go in the morning or early afternoon for brunch! I thought the dim sum were really nice. Will avoid going there for main course next time!
